Breast Cancer Treatment
The main goal of treating breast cancer is to prevent occurrence of breast cancer and total removal of cancer cells and tissues. Treatment includes combination of –

Surgery – Lumpectomy and Mastectomy
Lumpectomy also called as conservation breast surgery is partial removal of infected part or lump or cancerous cells.
Mastectomy means total removal of breast.
Treatment plan with either Lumpectomy and Mastectomy is decided by the treating specialist and is case to case basis.
Most of the patient who have lumpectomy will undergo radiation therapy. Also know as radiotherapy typically uses targeted, high energy x-rays to kill cancer cells.
After breast surgery, chemotherapy is given but before radiotherapy. This helps in getting rid of remaining cancerous cells and thus prevents re occurrence of breast cancer. For those with metastatic breast cancer, chemotherapy is used to kill cancer cells that have spread from the breast to other parts of the body. Chemotherapy usually lasts 3-6 months.
These are drugs specially designed to attack certain kinds of molecular agents. These vary from patient to patient.
